My name is Jo, I’m in my thirties and I live in London. I’m art historian by education, data geek by profession, omnivorous reader by passion. I really do read everything – it had even happened that, lacking any other reading material, I read German leaflet of Aspirin, it didn’t make it to my top 10 though. More often than not I read fiction the only genre I try to avoid is romance, but looking at the previous sentence if you leave me in a room with only a romance I would definitely read it. I want this blog to be about the books I’ve read, I’m reading now and the books I want to read (by far the longest list of the three). I will be posting reviews, thoughts on books I’m in the middle of and some quotes that I really liked. As I also love going to the theatre and art exhibitions and London is absolutely amazing in that respect there may be an occasional mention of my other cultural endeavours. Paper or e-books? Both, I don’t see them as exclusive as long as they keep us reading both formats are fantastic. All thoughts, comments and suggestions are more than welcome. The Children Act – Quotes

On March 21, 2016April 10, 2020 By bookskepticIn Quotes1 Comment

Abandonment While his back was turned to her she had a cold premonition of rejection, of the humiliation of being left for a young woman, of being left behind, useless and alone. Holding her gaze he said, ‘You know I love you.’ ‘But you’d like someone younger.’ ‘I’d like a sex life.’ Her cue to …

The Children Act – Ian McEwan

On March 19, 2016April 10, 2020 By bookskepticIn Reviews15 Comments

This book broke my heart. I read it few weeks ago when spring was very far away (now it’s just far away), days were short and probably I was a bit more vulnerable, but this book really got to me. Fiona Maye is a judge in Family Division, she is married, has no children and …

What if book characters could blog?

On March 12, 2016March 18, 2016 By bookskepticIn Thoughts3 Comments

Sarah at Hard Book Habit reminded me recently that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie created a real-life version of Ifemelu's blog. I think it is a great way to extend the life of characters beyond the book and make the book itself never ending. As it is a Saturday and hopefully you all have a bit more time I …

Murder in the Museum – John Rowland

On March 10, 2016April 17, 2016 By bookskepticIn Reviews5 Comments

Yay! My first Netgalley! I was always a lonely reader living my reading life outside of the internet, but since I have you my fellow bloggers I learned about the existence of Netgalley (last person in the world, yet again! I'm actually starting to feel special). And since I'm on a booking ban and I …

Americanah – Quotes

On March 8, 2016April 10, 2020 By bookskepticIn Quotes1 Comment

I shuffled the quotes a bit, so it is my personal collage of what made me wonder. People were flattered to be asked about themselves and if she said nothing after they spoke, it made them say more. They were conditioned to fill silences. - this is so true, I'm not a chatty person and my …

Americanah – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

On March 5, 2016April 10, 2020 By bookskepticIn Reviews10 Comments

This one has been on my TBR for over a year, finally reviews from Deepika at Worn Corners and Sarah at Hard Book Habit inspired me to read it. I expected a lot of this book and I must say I was not disappointed. It was one of those books that touch on difficult topic, then …

February round-up

On March 2, 2016September 2, 2016 By bookskepticIn Thoughts5 Comments

February has been another interesting month. I participated in Book Blogger Appreciation Week, my first event, I really liked it and thanks to it I found even more awesome blogs to follow. I broke my book buying ban, but I have a good excuse: I am going to Naples and Elena Ferrante books are absolutely …

#BBAW – Summary

On February 20, 2016 By bookskepticIn Thoughts2 Comments

Book Blogger Appreciation Week was hosted by The Estella Society. It's a great event bringing together wonderful book bloggers. I decided to summarize my first event. I'm not even sure I can say I participated, I used 2 out of 5 prompts, but let's say that counts. One thing I learned during this event is that …

#BBAW – Day 3

On February 17, 2016February 15, 2016 By bookskepticIn Thoughts12 Comments

Book Blogger Appreciation Week is hosted by The Estella Society. I chickened out and didn't participate in Day 2 interview, but here I'm back for Day 3. What have you read and loved because of a fellow blogger? Tough one, I joined the blogging community recently and my fellow bloggers for now keep on adding …
